£1 Million Community Fund Opens for Public Vote Across North East and Moray

Residents across Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray are being encouraged to help shape a greener and more sustainable future as public voting opens for Year 4 of the Scottish Government’s Just Transition Participatory Budgeting (PB) Fund.

From Friday 21st November to 5pm on Monday 8th December 2025, people who live, work or access services in the region have the opportunity to decide how £1 million of funding is invested in local, community led environmental projects. Each area - Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray - will distribute £333,333, with the final decisions made entirely by the public vote.

Now in its fourth year, the Fund supports projects that promote sustainability, reduce carbon emissions, and strengthen community resilience. Since 2022, it has backed 144 initiatives with £3.5 million in funding, helping to deliver practical, eco-friendly improvements across the North East ranging from greener transport solutions and energy efficient upgrades to inclusive community growing spaces.

This year, a wide variety of new proposals are in the running. By voting, residents can help bring these ideas to life and ensure the funding reflects the priorities of the people who know their communities best.

Voting is open to anyone aged 5 and over who lives, works, or accesses services in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire or Moray. All that’s needed is a valid postcode from one of the three areas.

Maggie Hepburn, Chief Executive at ACVO TSI, highlighted the importance of public participation: “The Just Transition PB Fund gives people a direct say in how local environmental challenges are addressed. Every project has the potential to make a positive impact and by voting, residents play a vital role in shaping a greener, fairer future for their communities.”

The Fund is delivered locally on behalf of the Scottish Government by ACVO TSI, Aberdeenshire Voluntary Action, tsiMoray, with support from NESCAN Hub and Money for Moray.

Residents are encouraged to explore the project proposals and cast their votes before the deadline on December 8th

To take part, visit www.jtpbfund.scot/vote. Voting closes on Monday 8th December 2025.
