Projects from year 1

Aberdeenshire North Foodbank

Community Growing Space & Market Garden

Aberdeenshire North Foodbank’s project received £13,800 from the Just Transition Participatory Budgeting Fund after a successful public vote. With this funding, the organisation purchased deer fencing for a rural food growing space which will be developed into a market garden - providing access to affordable and healthy food to the local communities.

The funding has enabled Aberdeenshire North Foodbank to engage with local groups and organisations more effectively since they now have a safe and secure community growing space to present to potential users.

As the project develops, their vision for the market garden is to have a holistic and community-led approach which will provide multiple benefits, such as connecting with local food businesses, encouraging active travel to the site, increasing biodiversity and providing educational opportunities to local schools.
